Born in 1981 in Olkusz, southern Poland, Monika studied photography at The Academy of Film, Art and Design in Łódź and Art Education at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, where she completed her MA degree.
In 2008 she moved to London and in 2013 Monika took part in Magnum Workshop with Stuart Franklin in Paris, when she produced the Belleville series.
In her work, she has always looked for genuine human interactions and true stories. Her fascination with destitute places has led to exploring themes such as enviro-crime and illegal dumping of waste under the ongoing Environmental neglect project. She has been searching for themes in street and documentary photography, as well as social and historical events and anti-government protests. Recently she has returned to her darkroom practice, where she's exploring new themes.
Her work has been published in The Sunday Times, Financial Times, the “I” newspaper, S’able Labs, as well as Polish weekly magazine Panorama.
